1. Make Use Of Paint That’s Easy To Clean
One important thing you’re going to want to do when you’re looking to paint your kitchen is to make use of a kind of paint that is easy to clean — in most cases, this will mean a paint that is glossy in nature rather than flat.
Though there are benefits to flat paint to be had (such as how well it can hide imperfections in the surface of a wall better than a glossier paint) a typical kitchen wall needs to be cleaned a bit more often than walls in other rooms owing to the preparation of food that usually goes on within it.
A glossy paint is good in that you are able to take a moist cloth, perhaps even with a good cleaning solution on it, and wipe the walls and get stains off of the wall quite easily.
2. Properly Remove Grease
Speaking of cleaning, if your kitchen has been used in the past for cooking (as in this kitchen that’s being painted is not in a new home) you are likely going to have to spend some time removing grease from the surfaces that you are going to paint.
There are numerous ways that you can remove grease from a surface that you’re looking to paint, and specific cleaning agents meant to remove grease typically ranks among the highest.
You can, however, make use of watered down dish soap to some extent — but it’s important that you fully remove any cleaning agent from the surface before you continue.
3. Let Surfaces Dry
The key in any painting project (interior or otherwise) is to have a dry surface upon which you are going to be painting.
That means that when you have finished cleaning the walls as mentioned above, for example, you’re not going to get straight away into the sanding of the walls as this would be bad for said walls.
You also wouldn’t apply a coat of primer to your walls and immediately apply a coat of paint — this would cause a good number of painting problems.
Make the time to allow your surfaces to dry and you will find that your painting goes much better.
4. Get Creative With Color Choices
As you’re going to be painting your kitchen walls, you should think about the color or colors that you are going to be using for the paint job.
It’s quite nice to walk into your kitchen and be greeted with a set of colorful walls — you don’t have to go with white or an off white color.
There are all sorts of colors that are pleasant in a kitchen, perhaps to be a future article covered in this blog – but remember that any color you choose should look right with the other colors present in the room.
5. Accent Wall Is Okay As Well
Lastly, you should know that it’s quite okay to add an accent wall to your kitchen as you are painting it.
If you’re not aware of what an accent wall is and what its purpose is in a room, it is simply a wall that stands out from the other walls in a room.
That can be in the form of being a different color from the other walls in the room, and in this case you can make the accent wall by picking a contrasting color
