We hear this all the time “I can’t cut in”, “my lines aren’t straight”.
There is no magic to cutting in along the ceiling or baseboards. Watch this short video for some easy tips.
When cutting in the first coat of finish paint do your best to make a straight line.
You want to start below the ceiling working your brush up to the ceiling then draw the brush along the ceiling. Then go back over the bottom of the paint line to even our and ridges. Remember this is first coat.
Once the wall is cut in you will roll out the finish paint, first coat done.
When the paint has dried you’ll be ready for the second coat.
Here’s your chance to make your lines perfect. Start cutting in the second coat, look at your line, see what areas can me made better. Then start cutting in fixing the areas that need fixed. With practise your lines will get better.
Some key things to remember are that it’s only paint. Major oops’s can be fixed. Don’t be hesitant, a quick steady hand will always give you a better cut line. I tell my apprentices that speed is the key to cutting in. Also, relax and remember to breath.
