How To Prepare For A Bedroom Painting Project in Burlington, Ontario
In looking to update the look of your home, one thing you may want to do is to consider how painting your bedroom may be all that you need to give the room a whole new look.
A stale color, after all, can be radically changed by a good paint job — but the preparation for painting a room such as your bedroom can be what makes the difference between a well painted bedroom and one that doesn’t look all that good.
With that being the case, let’s have a look at some tips for how to prepare for a bedroom painting project when you want a nicely painted bedroom.
1. Clean The Bedroom
One of the most simple things that you are going to be able to do when you are looking to paint your bedroom is to clean the room — specifically around the areas where you are going to be painting.
You’re not just going to be cleaning the surface that is to be painted — and that is important because you don’t want to apply primer and paint to a dirty surface — but the area near to where you are going to be painting.
Doing this will ensure that you don’t get a lot of dirt and grime mixed in with the paint and primer, which would make for a rather unpleasant looking painted wall in the bedroom.
2. Remove Furniture If Possible
Though you may want to leave the furniture you have in your bedroom as removing it would be quite difficult, there are some things to be said for removing furniture from your bedroom prior to painting it.
For one, you will find that if you have more furniture in a room where you are painting, it is going to be more difficult to get to the walls and therefore it will take longer to paint these walls.
Moreover, if you have furniture in the room there’s always a chance that you will get paint on that furniture, even if you take precautionary measures to protect the furniture — and it’s quite difficult to remove paint from furniture.
Try your best to remove the furniture and if you can’t remove it, get it away from the walls being painted and properly cover it with tarp or drop cloth so that paint does not get on it.
3. Cover The Floor
Speaking of covering things, you will surely want to cover the floor – you are going to be applying primer and paint to the walls and moving paint and primer around the room from one part of the room to another, and in doing so risking getting paint on the floor.
You greatly reduce and to some extent eliminate the risk of getting paint on the floor when you cover the floor near to where you are going to be painting — and by making use of a drop cloth or a tarp.
By carefully ensuring that your floor covering will not move around when you are going from one part of the room to another, you can better protect the floor from paint — and that ultimately is going to make for a cleaner and better painting project.
4. Use Primer Before Paint
Lastly, remember that in painting your bedroom you are going to want your paint to go on a surface that is as smooth as possible and one way to ensure this is to be sure that you use primer first.
Doing this will help to get your paint to stay on the surface that you are painting better than if you were to use no primer at all, for primer is far more adhesive and thus helps paint stay on the surface.
